Rice College junior Mohit Bawa and WRC sophomore Lang Fuqua were both injured after they fell from the back of a Ford Bronco on the Inner Loop last Saturday evening. They had apparently been standing on the tailgate of the truck during halftime of the Rice-Texas Tech University game. Accordingto Campus Police Chief Mary Voswinkel, the truck was moving too quickly as it turned the comer between Sewall Hall and the Allen Center, and the two students were thrown from it. , According to one of Bawa's friends, WRC junior Marcus Sands. Bawa suffered a head injury and was taken by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital for neural surgery. Fuquadislocated hie shoulder; he was released that night. As of T&esday afternoon, Bawa was still in the Neurological hiteftsfre Care Unit of Ben Ik ib . Hospital officials told the 7>W^<rWe4»ea<fay i^Kht thai Bawa was listedin poor condition. Friends, however, say his condition has improved signifi cantly in the last few days. 'The surgery went well and [Bawa] willbefine,* Sands said.
